Wiki communities run themselves. Each wiki's owner, admins and moderators make the day-to-day calls about content and people, within the terms and content rules. Wiki Forge's stewards (for now, only the site admin) step in rarely.

What stewards step into#

  • Illegal content, threats, and personal information: removed at once.
  • Breaches of the content rules that a wiki's own team doesn't deal with.
  • Spam waves, vandalism across wikis, and attacks on the platform.
  • Owners or admins abusing their role against the rules (for example using it to harass someone).
  • Abandoned wikis (below).

What stewards don't step into#

  • Ordinary disagreements about what a page should say, a wiki's style or scope, or who should be an admin. Those are the community's to settle, and the owner has the final word on their wiki.
  • Blocks a wiki's moderators made within their wiki's rules, unless the block itself breaks these policies.

Appealing#

  1. A block on one wiki: ask that wiki's moderators or admins first (the block notice and the public moderation log show who blocked you and why). If you think the block breaks Wiki Forge's own rules, write to admin@wikiforge.wiki.
  2. A platform ban, a removed wiki, or a steward's decision: write to admin@wikiforge.wiki with your handle and why you think it was wrong. A person reads every appeal. We aim to reply within two weeks.

Inactive owners#

If a wiki's owner hasn't been active for 6 months, its active editors can ask the stewards to hand the wiki to someone else. We then:

  1. Try to reach the owner by email, giving 30 days' notice.
  2. If they reply, they stay owner (they can still choose to hand it over).
  3. If they don't, we transfer ownership to an active admin or editor the community supports, and note it in the wiki's public log.

Leaving#

If a community decides to move on, it can: the text is CC BY-SA, and owners and admins can download every page with its full history at any time. Forking is always the last answer to a dispute nobody can settle.
